Happiness is NOT a destination
happiness is not a destination
This topic is something that has been on my mind every sense i fell in love with a book by john green called paper towns. The main character Margo has a very strong opinion on not waiting for the future plans to come to pass but living for now.
This has really stuck with me. It made me realize yes i can look forward to what the lord has planned for me in years to come, but i also need to find joy in where i am now. As humans we tend to long for the future ,and we ponder the thought of "when i have 5 kids and a husband then i will be happy" or 'when i have a boyfriend/girlfriend 'once i get into this college" once i am retired i will travel the world ,when i live in Utah or Hawaii or France then my happiness is guaranteed, to me this quite ridiculous.
Happiness is not a destination or an if and when, but merely a state of mind/ mood. Happiness and joy are a choice you choose to make. the sooner you realize being happy is a mood and a state of mind, it will become easier and easier to flip that frown upside down or to change a bitter heart. If we choose to live by whats to come tomorrow instead of focusing on today i feel we will always be setting ourselves up for disappointment, rather then choosing to be in whats happening now and finding joy in whats surrounding you and the beauty in the small things.
For me it just makes so much sense to say happiness is a choice and that being bitter or aggravated is also a choice but i feel this is because my heart only knows a small amount of pain, my reality has never been harsh. my surroundings have always been rather pure. my mother and i were pondering the thought that it is so easy to be caught up in what you don't have rather to baffle in the small but glorious things you do have.
Self pity is a very slippery trap to fall into, mainly because it is easy ,easier then to get up and acknowledge that hey yes today was three thousand definitions of awful but this is where i saw the lords hand , and ugh my friend made fun of what i believe in but i was also given a chance to stand up for something profound to me. And that I'm healthy and i have a Heavenly Father who loves me and my family, and who watches and provides many heavenly blessings. Ladies and gentleman make life simple and take control of your choices, and your state of mind, now i know this is the hard part, finding the will to come over these trials and choosing to make peace with whats happened and letting go and being happy, but you deserve to be happy , let yourself be happy CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY !
